Issue No. 95 January 2008
We regret to announce that Bill Marshall died shortly after relinquishing his membership.

The Quiz Evening in the Pavilion, held on Wed 5th March was very inventive, successful and well supported, thanks to the Ropers and the Halls for an excellent evening.
Re the Annual Dinner held on 22nd February 2008 This was another excellent evening with a very successful Tombola stall thanks to all the gifts members donated.

Ann Dowdall, who made and donated another beautiful necklace for the successful Raffle, sadly was unable to attend due to illness. We are pleased that she and others, who fell foul of bugs or injuries and were unable to attend, are all on the mend.

The lawns opened on time on 15th March and some hardy players turned out to celebrate. Just a few days later the competitors in the John Beech Tournament had to show their hardy side by clearing the lawns of 3" of snow before play could begin on the Saturday.

Lawns: A new gate has been erected by the Grass Car Park, to replace the damaged posts and improve security. The top corner of Lawn 5 re-seeding has not flourished and will require more maintenance. Helpers, as ever, will be welcomed for any and all the maintenance tasks to keep the lawns and huts and garden/hedges in good order.

New Rules: There are changes to the Golf Croquet Handicap rules and this also affects Association players where their handicaps for Golf are calculated. Please see the changes which will be displayed on the Club Notice Board and make sure you have your new Golf Handicap cards before playing and singles games. There are new rules a bout striking touching balls, they must be played at an angle to avoid a double tap.

There is to be a new Golf Croquet Tournament on 6/7 July at Heaton Park for players with handicaps between 0 and 6, we may send one player. Closing date 15th June.

Association players also have some new rules to familiarise themselves with effect from 15th March. John Filsak asks all players to look at the website and read the Gazette when published. It refers to collision with balls from another match.

There is also an Annual Fixture List leaflet displayed on the Notice Board.

Open Day 2008 will be held on Sat 14th June from 10am. Helpers will be needed to set lawns, teach and cater, as well as man the book stall etc.
