The AGM held on Sat 1st December was well attended.

On finances, Treasurer, Peter Dowdall, explained that tournament entries were down this year but the number of tournaments held was up so we showed a decent profit. The money raised for the John Beech Memorial Fund has been spent on the sign and the new beech tree planted in the top corner or the grass car park. The tree is small, but as Kathleen Beech said, John didn’t begin big, the tree will grown. Remaining monies should be returned to the general fund for maintenance. Peter said that subs did not need to rise this year but future provision must be made for equipment depreciation. Peter was thanked for his continued financial husbandry.

Chairman, Geoff Whitaker, thanked Roger Schofield, John Filsak, Abdul Ahmad and Peter Wilson for managing the 9 tournaments, internal competitions and the Musk Cup, which has been awarded to us again for 2008. Team Captains of all the Leagues were thanked for their efforts in a highly successful year. Jeff Perrris was thanked for his unstinting advice and help on the lawns and Abdul Ahmad for his work in implementing the advice and organising the workers. Barbara Dutton was thanked for her efforts on the garden. Abdul Ahmad was also thanked for the brilliant website. Maureen Whitaker, as organiser, and all the caterers who did such a splendid job throughout the season were thanked for their efforts.

Members are encouraged to bring their friends to try the game and hopefully encourage them to join.

It was decided to remove the ‘Over 50's’ part of the title from the Midweek Tournament.

Liz Wilson encouraged all members to join the CA as they had supported the club financially on set up. As 2007 Captain of the North West League team she said all matches had been played and the club finished mid table. She was unable to continue as Captain and was thanked for her past hard work.

David Pollitt,. as Captain of the North West Handicap team, thanked the 12 players he had used and said the club finished 4th in the table.

Robin Delves, as Short team Captain, said we finished in third place a great improvement on last years bottom place. New members played and did well. The Schofields were thanked for their long trek to Llanfairfechan to play their match.

As Captain of the Longman Cup team he lost out on a change of date, but will not do so again.

Geoff Whitaker, as Golf Croquet team Captain, said we played 7 and won 6 and brought home the trophy. Played new players wherever possible.

GW on behalf of Roger Schofield, Captain of East Pennine League team, said that they played 2 home and 2 away matches and won 3 lost 1.

John Filsak, Captain of the Mary Rose team, a National B level Knockout Competition, said that over the 4 rounds, on paper, we were the weaker team. However, we made the final at the lovely venue of Wrest Park and played above our weight and won. Liz Wilson won both her games and Robert Essler battled us to Victory. All players thanked for their support.

David Pollitt, re Secretary Shield, we got knocked out in the first round by the eventual winners of the competition.

PROPOSED RULE CHANGES

Re rules 3.3 and 3.4. We are not legally permitted to state that no person under 18 may hold office, therefore this rule change is eliminated. Re rule 6.11b this amendment was voted down.

However, it is pointed out that members who have not paid their subs by March are technically ineligible to vote at meetings or play in matches. The other minor grammatical amendments were left to the committee.

The North West Federation is running a Golf Croquet Coaching Course at Culcheth Club on 12th - 13th April 2008.
The Millennium Handicap Tournament has been awarded to Pendle again.
Our club is encouraged to support the North West Federation and to support the Tournament at Southport on 28th-29th June 2008. Entries for the Leagues to be in before December 31st 2007.

Geoff Whitaker and Abdul Ahmad will represent Pendle at the next meeting on Sat 8th March 2008 at Culcheth.

Can team Captains please support the tournament at Southport on 28th & 29th June. We need 3 players for Handicap, 3 for Golf, 2 Advanced, 3 for Short on each day. Not necessarily the same players each day unless you want to make a weekend of it.

Sandra Jensen offered a fund raising quiz evening for next Sep/Oct to take place in the Pendle Forest Sports Club. There would need to be 8 teams
of 4 - 6 people, not just club members, bring your friends.

Indoor Croquet at Earby Community Centre.

This can be arranged on Thursdays from 10am - 4pm. The mat is at the Community Centre but the hoops have to be collected and returned to the pavilion.

Ilkley players are keen, so support from Pendle would be appreciated.
Bring your own lunch, there is a good dining area. £12 room hire to be shared among the participants. This requires a little forward planning so 1 week’s notice appreciated. Contact Abdul.
