24 July 2010 Pendle records an unexpected victory over Bury in the NWFCC Advanced League. Report by John Filsak. An 8-1 victory over Bury was the unexpected, but very satisfying, result of the advanced match on Saturday, July 24. In addition to the two points for a win, we also gained the maximum three bonus points. All Pendle players were in good form. One interesting point: Andrew Webb beat Tony Phillips 27-17 (although the official score was +9). Neither player realised that after Andrew ran rover with black he misplaced the clip by putting it on rover. So he ran it twice. Croquet etiquette seems to dictate that spectators are not allowed to intervene and point out this sort of error, but surely it wouldn't be wrong for the team captain(s) to have a word with their players. Would it? Full results: John Filsak (1.5) beat Tony Phillips (4.5) +19 Robert Essler (2.5) beat David Barrett (0.5) +4 Andrew Webb (4) beat Ken Anderton (4.5) +11 John beat Ken +22 Robert beat Tony +12 Andrew lost to David -16 John beat David +14 Robert beat Ken +13 Andrew beat Tony +9 | |||||||
