26 September 2008 Pendle will return to Wrest Park to defend the Mary Rose Trophy. We're in the Mary Rose finals again! Against Surbiton again! Can we repeat last year's success? Bowdon visited us on September 26 for the match which had been rained off earlier in the month. On paper we were the stronger team, handicap-wise (it makes a change), and that proved to be the case in fact, when we won 4-3. Robert Essler and John Filsak beat Frank Moir and Tony Hudson +7 in the doubles, and Peter Wilson (back in form) beat Mike Steer +26. With Liz Wilson losing to Sylvia Steer -13 we went in to lunch 2-1 up. After lunch Robert beat Frank +17 and Peter beat Sylvia +15 to seal the match. So although John lost to Tony -5 and Liz to Mike -3, it didn't really matter. The final takes place on Saturday (October 4) at Wrest Park, Bedfordshire. All supporters will be welcome (but they'll have to pay an entry fee to English Heritage to get in). | |||||||
