23 September 2008 Pendle wins the 2008 NWFCC Handicap League Title after defeating Bowdon Firs at home. . It was a cold but bright and dry day. Pendle faced Bowdon Firs in the final match of the season. The outcome of the league title was finely posied. Pendle and Bury were in contention. Pendle were a point ahead of Bury Peelers. A draw would hand the title to Bury as they had beaten Pendle in their encounter. The added pressure to win was evident throughout the morning doubles games. They were both scrappy affairs. After countless clanged hoops and indifferent play Pendle won both the games. The visitors were treated to a nice meal and a glass or two of Robin's red wine. Pendle won 2 out of 4 singles at resumption and thus were crowned the 2008 NWFCC Handicap League Winners. Final Result:- Pendle 4 - Bowdon Firs 2 Doubles Results:- Abdul Ahmad & Howard Bowron beat John Wilkinson & Janet Guthrie Robin Delves & Peter Dewhurst beat Sylvia Steer & John Saxby Singles Results:- Abdul Ahmad lost to Sylvia Steer Robin Delves beat John Wilkinson Howard Bowron beat Janet Guthrie Peter Dewhurst lost to John Saxby | |||||||
