Among the Pendle Hills February 22nd 2008 by Dave Turner Tonight, in my rear view mirror, I caught sight of a black void Following me around As the car twisted and turned Down Pendle's dark country lanes And over undecorated, Uninhabited black Lancashire hills. It tracked me doggedly, Regardless of whatever speed The car was travelling, Never approaching, never receding, But always there. There was no threat, No menace Except that of persistence and patience. Even when at last Sodium illuminated lanes Rushed eerily towards the mirror's centre, Geometrically bordered voids Danced in my forward, backward gaze. The next day, Though the mirror was filled with world, An undercurrent of darkness swirled Behind rapidly moving images Waiting for the inevitable. | |||||||
