16 August 2008 Handicap Team enjoys a good day's croquet at Crake Valley. Thursday 14th: Mark Miller expressed doubts about the match going ahead. Lawns very wet. Weekend forecast dire. Friday 16th August: Mark Miller advised that the match was definitely on. Saturday 17th August: The Pendle team travelled to Grenodd with some trepidations. The forecast was not encouraging. The journey was conducted in bright sunshine. On arrival Mark Miller suggested that we should play singles first in order that doubles could be single banked on Lawn 1 if the predicted rain arrived! The other lawns were likely to flood! It turned out to be a fine day. Crake Valley treated us to a lavish lunch between sessions. All the matches were keenly contested and could have gone either way.
