19 July 2008 Handicap team wrestles a draw out of Bowdon St Mary's at home. Bowdon came to Earby on what promised to be another wet day. It was mostly showery during the morning doubles session. The Bowdon pair of Janice Moir and Chris Lewis played two very good turns to beat Abdul Ahmad and Catherine Parnell comfortably. It looked as though Bowdon would win the other match also. Bowdon's Sue Cooper was in play when time was called. Her hoop run stuck in 2 back. The situation was Ross Pimlott was on penult, Sue Cooper on 2 back, Robin Delves and David Pollitt were both on 3 back. Bowdon lead by a hoop. David Pollitt elected to take the responsibility of taking the final time turn for Pendle. He aimed at Ross's open ball on the south side of 2 back, struck his ball and hit Sue's ball on the north side and peeled it through! Bowdon were now 2 hoops up. Undeterred David continued his turn and scored 3 remarkable hoops with no visible pioneers to assist him and gave Pendle a win by 1 hoop. The afternoon session was played in milder conditions. Pendle were 3 matches to 2 up approaching the conclusion of the tie. Catherine Parnell in play was on rover and peg against Sue Cooper on 3 back and rover. She bloobed rover! Sue Cooper displayed steely nerves to overcome Catherine in a nail biting finish in four turns. She had a very good break from 4 back to pegging out in her last turn.
