18 July 2008 Singing in the rain at the Midweek Tournament! Report by John Filsak and Photographs by Barbara Dutton There were six main prizes being competed for. The A class was won efficiently by Peter McDermott, with five wins out of five played. John Filsak was the only one to give him a run for his money, but failed attempting one flamboyant shot too many. The B class players ended up on one win each. A round of single-ball games failed to decide the winner. So the competition was resolved by a shoot-out at the peg. Roger Staples was the only one to hit, so claimed the prize. Janet Davies triumphed in the C class and Howard Bowron in the D. Howard also won the Irish Cup for finishing with the best rating in the catch-all Egyptian competition, as well as his bronze merit award and a handicap reduction from 16 to 14. The handicap doubles final was contested by Peter and Barbara McDermott and Robin Delves and Peter Dewhurst (too many ands in this sentence). Pretty it wasn't, but the Pendle pair eventually triumphed +1 on time. This being Pendle, there were a couple of other prizes to be had. Janet Davies, at 57 minutes, won the fastest game prize. And the addict prize for the most games played (12) was shared between John Filsak and Patricia Duke-Cox. | |||||||
