12 July 2008 East Pennine League team records a comfortable win against Tyneside. Report and Results by John Filsak On Saturday we entertained Tyneside in the East Pennine League and emerged 5-2 winners. It was a lovely day in the end, but the match almost didn't take place. Friday evening: Frantic phone calls. It has been too wet to mow the lawns. They're all under standing water. We should call the match off. Saturday morning: The water had largely disappeared. Roger and Abdul mowed lawns 1 and 5 (many thanks), and the lawns played a treat all day. Only a few drops of rain fell. After diversions and delays the Tyneside team turned up at about 10.45 and play got under way. Results: Advanced doubles: John Filsak (3) and David Roe (4) lost to Derek Watts (1.5) and Derek Old (4.5) -3 Handicap singles: Robin Delves (10) beat David Turner (5) +23 Peter Dewhurst (20) lost to Jacob Carr (5) -5 Advanced singles: John beat Derek Watts +18 David beat Derek Old +7 Handicap singles: Robin beat Jacob +1 Peter beat David +5 | |||||||
