Annual Dinner and Presentation Ceremony Report and Photographs by Barbara Dutton

L-R Liz Wilson, Peter Wilson and Robert Essler On a blustery night just after the full moon the croquet club members arrived at Colne Golf Club for the annual dinner. The bar was open, the tables were set and the chatter was loud. The tombola stall went well with generous gifts and support from members and the raffle for Ann Dowdall's hand made necklace raised £130.

Eventually Geoff Whitaker, Club Chairman, called the gathering to order for a few moments silence in remembrance of two members who died in the preceding year, Sidney Roe and Vice President Betty Brierley.

After Grace the meal was served with the Golf Club's usual efficiency and the meal enjoyed amid chatter and laughter.

After the meal was cleared away the Chairman, Geoff Whitaker, made a short speech thanking all who had helped in any way to make the club the success it was in the preceding year. The increase in membership was encouraging, but we had room for more, especially young players.

Congratulations were offered to Abdul Ahmad on being offered position of a referee at the World Golf Croquet Championship in South Africa in March.

We need more people to support the teams in the various leagues and competitions, although the trophies won by the members in such events have been outstanding. The team under John Filsak's Captaincy won the Mary Rose tankard. Roger Schofield's Association team were the East Pennine League Champions and Geoff Whitaker's Golf Croquet team won the North West Golf Croquet League.

David Pollitt proudly shows off the Doubles Trophy The Internal Competition winners for 2007 were: The Aston Trophy (Full Handicap croquet) - Robin Delves, who also scooped the The Pendle Shield (Short Handicap) and The Limes Trophy(Short Ladder).
The Association Doubles Trophy was won by Robin Delves and David Pollitt.
The Barlow Ball (Advanced Association) was won by Robin Essler (the hero of the Mary Rose final competition)
The One Ball Competition was won by Abdul Ahmad, who also won the Skelton Trophy (Golf Croquet Singles) and the Golf Croquet Ladder.

Everyone participating, winners or not, were thanked for taking part. The Golf Club were thanked for their excellent meal and for hosting our event.

For those who were unable to attend through illness, we wish them well: Bill Marshall, Ann Dowdall, Walter and Sheila Flattery and Barbara Wilkinson.
