Monk's House B&B - For Sue.
By David Turner

If ever you're in Pendle and
You need a place to stay
And all the camping sites are full
And home is far away.

Then go and lodge at Barnoldswick,
At Monk's House on the Hill,
Number Five Manchester Road,
They take in guests there still!

Everything is all en sweet,
But the sweetest thing is Sue!
The rooms are very comfortable
With showers in them too!

If you're a body builder
The breakfasts are to suit
Or if you're emulating Posh
There's freshly peeled grapefruit.

But do beware just who you ask
For advice on where to walk,
Sometimes Sue gets overwhelmed
By all the work and talk.

When she feels she has too many
Demanding guests to stay
She sends them up to Pendle Hill
By her secret way.

They quickly find the place to start
The climb up Witches' Hill
But once they get onto the top
It won't be sunny still.

Sue knows the local weather lore
Predicting thick witch mist
Upon the top of Pendle Hill
When cool breezes persist.

You'll walk in circles in the fog
All the remaining day
And if you try to guess the path
Deep bogs will bar your way!

Sue might send out the rescue team
Or she might just say, "O hell!"
And get her little tent out
And go camping for a spell!

Yet if you have come to Earby
To play at the croquet club
Monk's House is the place to rest
And relax in the tub.

A meal and a pint at the Fanny Grey
Will set you up just right
It is not far up Manchester Road
And you're sure of a jolly night.

But three, three-hour tournament games
Take it out of us old men -
By ten o'clock we're ready for bed
To get up early again.
