03 May 2008 Pendle recorded a creditable win against Southport Duke's Folly at home. Report by Barbara Dutton Result: Pendle 5 Southport 4 The Advanced team of John Filsak, Abdul Ahmad and Robert Essler took on the Southport Duke's Folly team at Earby, on a beautiful sunny day. Southport fielded Melanie and Terry Foster and Bob Burnett. The grass had grown markedly on lawn 5 overnight after its cut and playing was interesting. Lawns 1, 2 and 3 were reasonably paced. Pendle had a 2-1 lead at lunch break. Bob Burnett showed his class and played consistently throughout the day. He won all his games comfortably. Pendle took 5-3 lead with a game still in progress on lawn 1. The rest of the team members watched a titanic battle unfold between John Filsak and Melanie Foster on Lawn 1. John lost by narrow margin and conceeded 14 index points! Pendle gained 13 points for the overall victory. | |||||||
